At North Cobb Christian School, we strive to meet the diverse needs of all of our students, whether they need enrichment, advancement, tutoring, intervention, accommodations, or therapy services. The Dr. Carolyn Ware Moving Forward Program (MFP) is a student support services program designed to bolster the academic, social, and emotional needs of students who are reaching to meet academic standards and achieve individualized goals for success.

Diverse learners.

MFP works collaboratively with parents, students, and teachers to support our students who are struggling to meet goals, as well as our typical learners who are working on specific goals and high-level learners working towards advanced placement instruction and extracurricular opportunities.

A variety of methods.

Struggling learners can be supported through a variety of methods, including classroom strategies and interventions, classroom and testing accommodations, small-group instruction, cognitive and speech-language therapy services, tutoring, executive functioning instruction, and learning lab support.

Enrichment + advancement.

MFP also works alongside families and teachers to help students seek opportunities for enrichment and advancement, such as advanced placement math classes, speech competitions, mathematics competitions, spelling bees, debate team, accelerated foreign language programs, and skill-specific extracurriculars like theater, photography, art, music, or sports.

Individualized approach.

Each student’s program of services is individualized based on his or her specific learning goals and needs. After gathering appropriate data on student achievement, parents will meet with the MFP team to determine the appropriate interventions required to facilitate student success.

Is the Moving Forward Program rate separate from tuition?

While some services, such as the Program of Accommodations in Lower School, are offered at no extra charge, most services provided by MFP (listed below) require a fee, in addition to the cost of tuition. Services are arranged through the office of the Moving Forward Program Director.

Program of Accommodations

For students who have diagnosed learning differences, a Program of Accommodations can be developed after a thorough review of the student’s psychoeducational evaluation. Accommodations are outlined in an individualized document, the Student Learning Profile (SLP), and are implemented by the classroom teacher and designated MFP personnel. A current (within 3 years) comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation is required for participation in the Program of Accommodations and related services.

RATE | There is no fee for the Program of Accommodations in Lower School. The fee for Middle School participation is $500 per school year and includes the services detailed below. The fee for Upper School participation is $1000 for the school year and includes the services detailed below.

Case Manager Support

All students participating in the Program of Accommodations are assigned a case manager to oversee the implementation of that student’s accommodations and services. A student’s case manager maintains a frequent, on-going circle of communication between the student, the teachers, and the parents to ensure that the plan for implementing accommodations and supports is going well. Additionally, the case manager works directly with the student when possible to promote skills, encourage strategy use, and troubleshoot solutions to problems that may arise.

RATE | The fee for Case Manager Support is included within the cost of the Program of Accommodations.

Learning Lab

Learning Lab services are available to all Middle and Upper School students who receive accommodations. The Learning Lab provides a quiet, structured environment in which testing accommodations are implemented and test-taking skills are taught and monitored. Other resources provided in the Learning Lab include Google Read & Write software, Google Classroom support, and homework help. Students are able to choose between receiving testing accommodations in the general classroom or in the Learning Lab for each content area class.

RATE | The fee for the Learning Lab is included within the cost of the Program of Accommodations.

Content Development Classes

Content development classes replace a student’s regularly scheduled Math or Reading/Language Arts class and are available to students in K5 through 8th grade. Students needing specific remediation in these areas receive individualized instruction in a small group class (1-4 students) every day during the time the content area is taught in the general classroom. These classes are taught by experienced instructors who are highly trained in their content area. All MFP instructors have earned a Master’s degree and Reading instructors have completed Orton-Gillingham training and the Complete Reading Series training (in addition to other trainings and certifications).

RATE | The fee for this service is $5,000 per year for a single class, or $7,500 per year for both classes together.

Interactive Metronome

Interactive Metronome (IM) is a research-based cognitive training program designed to significantly improve rhythm and timing in the brain, helping the brain remap to work more efficiently. IM is effective in enhancing global cognitive and athletic performance. Additionally, it can be used to improve cognitive abilities in students with diagnoses such as ADHD, dyslexia, learning differences, speech-language difficulties, and more.

RATE | The fee for this service is $77.50 per session.

Students who need a short-term period of intervention to augment skills not mastered in the regular classroom will benefit from tutoring. Advanced students looking to enhance mastery of concepts and families looking to increase their school-family balance will also benefit from working with a tutor. On-campus and off-campus tutoring is offered for most academic classes and is available to all NCCS students.

RATE | The fees are as follows:

  • $40 per 1-hour session
  • $32 per 45-minute session
  • $25 per 30-minute session

Speech-Language Services

Speech-language screenings, comprehensive speech-language evaluations, and therapy services are available on-campus for students having difficulties with articulation (speech sounds), language skills, fluency skills (stuttering), and/ or pragmatics (social skills and social communication). These services are available for students of all ages.

RATE | The fees for speech-language services are as follows:

  • $40 for a Speech & Language Only Screening
  • $50 for a Speech, Language, & Hearing Screening
  • $250 for a Comprehensive Speech-Language Evaluation
  • $100 per hour for Therapy Services
